Ras Abu Aboud Stadium is the seventh 2022 FIFA World Cup Venue in Doha with a capacity of 40,000 seats. It is poised to leave a legacy in stadium designs as being the World Cup’s first ‘reusable’ stadium. It will be built on the shoreline of the Arabian Gulf and faces Doha’s stunning West Bay Skyline and is located on a 450,000 sqm waterfront site.

The stadium is to be constructed using shipping containers, removable seats and other ‘modular building blocks’. Shipping containers will be repurposed to contain important functions such as staircases and bathrooms. The modular design is sustainable due to a decrease in usage of construction materials that is achieved by using pre-fabricated materials. Overall, the benefits of these design elements has reduced the project’s carbon footprint and also allowed for the stadium to be dismantled and re-located once the FIFA World Cup is over.

Meinhardt was appointed to peer review the project and we assembled a professional team to provide independant evaluations of project designs so as to enhance public safety and ensure there are no errors in the engineering design.
