Remember the 2018 auction that sent the art world into shock when a canvass art piece ‘Girl With Balloon’ priced at US$1.37 million shredded itself immediately after it was sold? That now-infamous Banksy stunt at the Sotheby’s auction set a new level of creativity in the art world. Banksy is perhaps the most mysterious and subversive artist alive.
Banksy’s street art is found around the world, with many in the UK where he is believed to be from. One town, Shoreditch, houses many of his art pieces.
Meinhardt UK had the privilege of being the technical consultant for the safe removal and relocation of two giant Banksy murals in Shoreditch – the ‘rat’ and the smaller 15-tonne ‘TV’ have been part of Shoreditch’s landscape for the past 15 years but are making way for the construction of the Art’otel London Hoxton.
