Meinhardt was commissioned by Capco, a joint venture of CLP Power and Exxon, to design and supervise construction of the reclamations and seawalls for Asia’s largest coal fired power station complex, with an installed capacity of over 4100MW.
The area of the power station site is 62Ha, of which 35Ha was reclaimed using site won fill. Reclamation filling reaches up to 26m in depth, with the seawalls being the deepest constructed in Hong Kong having a total height between founding level and coping of up to 45m.
Naturally armoured rubble core seawalls designed to meet design requirements for Hong Kong’s typhoon conditions were founded in water having a depth of about 22m. The site is served by a coal unloading jetty designed by Meinhardt for vessels up to 140,000dwt. The jetty design was recently upgraded by Meinhardt to accept coal vessels of up to 180,000 DWT.
